1987 Annual Meeting and Lisa Phillips Lecture

At the next meeting of The Society (the Annual Meeting), Ms. Lisa Phillips, Associate Curator of the Whitney Museum of American Art, will speak about the role of a major museum in acquiring and exhibiting the work of younger and emerging artists. Ms. Phillips was substantially involved with curating the current Whitney Biennial and has been with The Whitney since 1977. You may have seen recent articles about the Whitney Biennial in the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. In addition to curatorial responsibilities, Ms. Phillips has been involved in selecting works for acquisition and in raising funds for presentations and exhibitions. We are hoping that exposure to Ms. Phillips’ knowledge and expertise, along with the guidance of our own XXth Century Department will assist us in making our next acquisitions.
