60th Anniversary

What: The Society for Contemporary Art at the Art Institute of Chicago is proud to present its 60th Anniversary Gala. Who: An estimated attendance of over 250 art professionals, contemporary collectors, corporate buyers and individuals who are just beginning their collections. When: Saturday April 8, 2000. Our featured guest is John Giorno. Renowned as the man who slept in Andy Warhol’s eight-hour film, Sleep, Giorno has collaborated with such contemporary luminaries as William Burroughs and Laurie Anderson. His silk screen prose paintings have been exhibited at Tony Shafrazi Gallery in New York. Experimental music ensemble The Electric Soundscapes will also perform. Where: McGrath Lexus, Chicago. Why: To celebrate 60 years of support for the contemporary art collection at The Art Institute of Chicago, and to raise funds to make a significant purchase of art to be contributed to the Art Institute’s permanent collection.
