Join fellow SCA members for a special opportunity to view The Obama Portraits as well as the Modern and Contemporary collection Monday, August 2 from 6:30—8:00 p.m. in the Modern Wing. During this intimate viewing experience, SCA members will enjoy after-hours access while the museum is closed to the public. The SCA welcomes attendees to The Gage for a cocktail reception following the event.
Chicago, and the Art Institute of Chicago, is the first stop for Kehinde Wiley’s painting of President Barack Obama and Amy Sherald’s portrait of former First Lady Michelle Obama as part of a five-city tour organized by the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery, Washington, D.C. As the family’s longtime home, Chicago has a unique connection to the Obamas, as does the Art Institute. Michelle Obama recalls visiting frequently with her family when she was growing up on the South Side, and the museum was also the site of the couple’s first date.
We hope you will join us in welcoming these portraits to Chicago and connecting with other SCA members for this in-person event.
