Bernard Chaet

The Importance of Drawing as a Function of Seeing and of Inventing Art Artist Bernard Chaet, Professor in the Art Department at Yale University and currently the Visiting Artist at Dartmouth College will speak to us about the uses of drawing and the development of thematic material as the key to invention. Using slides of works by great draughtsmen from the time of the old masters through the 20th Century, Mr. Chaet will discuss and illustrate how artists produce new realms of seeing and follow themes with which they are obsessed to invent forms appropriate to the theme. Mr. Chaet does not make a distinction between old and new artworks because he believes that a great work of art is current the minute one sees it. Mr. Chaet is the author of “The Art of Drawing”. He has had numerous exhibitions and his art works are in public collections throughout the country.
