Dan Graham

Dan Graham is one of the most influential contemporary artists working at the intersection of art and architecture. Renowned for work that explores urban phenomena ranging from suburbia, public architecture, and punk music, he is also a recognized theorist and critic, and is the author of Video-Architecture-Television: Writings on Video and Video Works, 1970-1978 (1979) and Rock My Religion: Writings and Art Projects 1965?1990 (1993). Graham?s work is represented in major institutions in the U.S. and Europe and has been exhibited internationally in Documenta 5 (1972), 6 (1977), 7 (1982), 9 (1992) and 10 (1997); Skulpture Projeckte M?nster (1987 and 1997); and the 50th and 51st Venice Biennale (2003 and 2005). Nationally he has had numerous solo and group exhibitions including the Renaissance Society, Chicago (1981) and Reconsidering the Object of Art 1965?75 (1995?96). Graham?s work has been featured at The Art Institute of Chicago in When Color Was New (2007); Affinities and Intuitions: The Gerald S. Elliot Collection of Contemporary Art (1990); and the 73rd and 74th American Exhibitions (1979 and 1982) and at the MCA in Sympathy for the Devil: Art and Rock and Roll Since 1967 (2007?2008); PC: Conceptual Photography from the Gerald S. Elliot Collection (1993); and Concept, Narrative, Document (1979). Graham?s Model for Pavilion/Sculpture for Argonne, 1978?81 was given to the Department of Contemporary Art as a gift of the Society for Contemporary Art in 1982.
