Daniel Buren

The internationally known French artist, Daniel Buren, will be the speaker for the April meeting. Buren resides in Paris but travels throughout the United States and Europe in connection with frequent exhibitions both here and abroad. Although Buren has been specifically familiar to the Chicago public because of his piece in the Art Institute’s Europe in the Seventies exhibition in 1977, for which green and white stripes were applied to the risers of the Grand Staircase. Currently, Buren’s work, “Watch the Doors Please” — stripes appearing on the Illinois Central commuter trains — can be viewed from the Norton Stair Hall window at The Art Institute.`
