Dore Ashton

Dore Ashton, the distinguished art critic, writer and professor will be our speaker in March. It is fitting that Ms. Ashton, an expert on the work of Joseph Cornell and author of the book, A Joseph Cornell Album (1974), is able to come to Chicago before the close of The Art Institute’s Cornell exhibition. In addition to her work on Cornell, Ms. Ashton has written books on Philip Guston, Richard Lindner, Pol Bury and modern American sculpture, among others. Her articles have been published in over 70 journals throughout the world; she was the art critic for the New York Times (1955-60) and associate editor Art Digest (1951-54). Ms. Ashton has been professor of art history at Cooper Union, New York since 1969.
