Mies and the Figurative Arts

Franz Schulze

In this year of architect Mies van der Rohe’s Centennial, we are privileged to have Franz Schultze, author of “Mies van der Rohe: A Critical Biography” with us to discuss “Mies and the Figurative Arts.” Respondents including Dirk Lohan, grandson of Mies, will also comment for discussion after the lecture. Mr. Schulze is especially preparing his lecture for the Society for Contemporary Art and will discuss Mies’ collection of works by Klee, Munch, Kandinsky, Picasso, Schwitters and others. Mr. Schulze is most familiar to Chicago audiences as art critic with the Chicago Sun Times. He is, however, a frequent contributor to “Art in America” and “Art News”. A frequent symposium speaker, Mr. Schulze is also the Hollender Professor of Art at Lake Forest College.
