Holly Solomon

The speaker at the next meeting of the Society for Contemporary Art will be art dealer, collector and author, Holly Solomon who has maintained her gallery in New York for twenty years. A few weeks ago, you may have seen a review of her new book in the Home section of the Chicago Sunday Tribune. Ms. Solomon was an active collector of contemporary art prior to establishing herself as a dealer, but her involvement with art and artists led her to open a gallery in 1969 – one of the very first to pioneer the area now known as SoHo. Moving the Holly Solomon Gallery uptown to Fifth Avenue in 1983, Ms. Solomon continues to represent some of the most noted artists in the contemporary art world, including video artist, Nam Jun Paik, painter and photographer, William Wegman, installation artist, Judy Pfaff, and the late conceptualist Gordon Matta-Clark. In addition, Ms. Solomon is known for championing such renowned “pattern painters” of the mid-70’s as Kim McConnell and Robert Kushner. Last year, Ms. Solomon joined forces with writer Alexandra Anderson in co-authoring “Living with Art” published by Rizzoli International.
