Jack Cowart

Our speaker will be Jack Cowart, Curator, 19th and 20th Century Art, The St. Louis Museum. Mr. Cowart organized the exhibition “Roy Lichtenstein 1970-1980” which opened in St. Louis early last summer and is presently on view at the Whitney Museum, New York as part of its tour. In his lecture for the evening, “Lichtenstein: Insights/Oversights,” Mr. Cowart will focus on this exhibition and will discuss Roy Lichtenstein’s work of the last decade to the present. Jack Cowart assumed his post at The St. Louis Museum in 1974 after having been on the staff of the Wadsworth Athenaeum, Hartford, Connecticut. Among other major exhibitions, Mr. Cowart initiated “Henri Matisse Paper Cut-Outs” (1977) and he has written accompanying catalogues as well as periodical articles. Mr. Cowart serves as advisor for The Contemporary Art Society of The St. Louis Museum.
