Jeff Koons

Jeff Koons, artist, will speak about his own work before the membership of the Society for Contemporary Art. Mr. Koons, sculptor and painter, attended the Maryland Institute College of Art and The School of The Art Institute of Chicago. While at The School of The Art Institute, he was a student of Ed Paschke. In 1977, Mr. Koons moved to New York where he is currently working. He has exhibited in numerous exhibitions both in the United States and abroad and, most recently this past summer at The Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. Since 1979, Mr. Koons has been making art which immediately captures the viewer’s attention because of his use of recognizable manufactured objects such as vacuum cleaners, basketballs, and dime store inflatables. His meticulous presentation of these objects torn from their normal context, whether suspended in liquid-filled tanks or cast in stainless steel, arouses our imaginations. Koon’s work focuses our attention on his personal concerns involving social issues, such as consumerism and the media.
