Julian Schnabel

Artist Julian Schnabel, whose painting entitled “The Wind” was a gift from the Society to the permanent collection of the XXth Century Department in 1986, will be our speaker. An exhibition of Mr. Schnabel’s paintings, including “The Wind”, is currently on view at the Musee National d’art Moderne, Paris. The exhibition, entitled “Julian Schnabel: Paintings 1975-86” was organized by Whitechapel Art Gallery in London, and it will have subsequent showings in Germany and the United States. Closer to Chicago, the Milwaukee Art Museum is mounting an exhibition entitled “Currents 10: Julian Schnabel” that will be open from March 6 to April 26 and that will consist of about 19 paintings that span his career but with an emphasis on the last two years of his work. Because of the broad interest in Julian Schnabel’s work, the Society is sponsoring this lecture together with The League of Arts and Ideas of The School of The Art Institute.
