Evan Holloway, Liz Larner and Jason Meadows

In Conversation: Evan Holloway, Liz Larner and Jason Meadows.
Liz Larner is easily one of the most important sculptors to emerge from Los Angeles in the past fifteen years. She rigorously interrogates the foundations of sculpture?volume, mass, materiality, even color?and returns with something that feels entirely new. Her work often seems suspended between order and chaos, a testament to her deft manipulation of space. Evan Holloway’s work exemplifies a strong tendency in contemporary Los Angeles art making, creating sculptural works that combine formal rigor with an irreverent, playful use of materials. Holloway’s highly idiosyncratic works have several key features in common: formal succinctness, the acceptance of chance, and the overlaying of diverse systems and media. Jason Meadows’ sculptures may appear slightly off, experimental, or perhaps even improvisational. They are made up of irregular forms and ordinary materials that have been glued, screwed, and put together in a “do-it-yourself” manner. Through the use of rhythm and repetition, and by combining abstract shapes with representational reference, the artist has succeeded in turning daily objects in lyrical compositions. Holloway and Meadows both served as Larner’s studio assistant. Please join us for what promises to be an extraordinary evening as the three artists discuss their work and the ways in which they have influenced each other. Please join us for what promises to be a lively discussion with this legendary figure.
