Modern Wing Tour

The Society for Contemporary Art (SCA) invites you to an exclusive members-only tour with Curators James Rondeau and Douglas Druick of the Modern and Contemporary permanent collections in the recently opened Modern Wing at the Art Institute of Chicago. Designed by architect Renzo Piano, the Modern Wing has transformed the Art Institute increasing the gallery space by 33 percent, enabling never before seen work to be installed in the permanent collection galleries, and opening the museum’s interior to views of the downtown Chicago skyline and Millennium Park. The current installation also highlights several works that have entered the museum’s collection as SCA acquisitions including, but not limited to David Smith’s Beach Scene (1949), Jackson Pollock’s Greyed Rainbow (1953), Joan Mitchell’s City Landscape (1955), Ed Paschke’s Mid American (1969), Carl Andre’s Steel-Aluminum Plain (1969), and Alex Katz’s Vincent and Tony (1969). James Rondeau is the Frances and Thomas Dittmer Chair and Curator of the Department of Contemporary Art. Douglas Druick is the Prince Trust Curator of Prints and Drawing and Searle Curator of Medieval through Modern European Painting and Modern European Sculpture. Following our program we will have dinner in the new Trustees Board Room in the Modern Wing providing a great opportunity to continue our conversation with Rondeau and Druick. You must be a member in good standing to attend this event. Space is limited. The Society for Contemporary Art would like to acknowledge our partnership with Sotheby’s for this and upcoming events
