Presentation with Jay Xu

The Society for Contemporary Art invites you to the annual Patron Luncheon, which recognizes the special commitment and generosity of Patron members and gives our Board an opportunity to thank you for your extraordinary support during the past year. This year we will meet with Jay Xu, the Pritzker Chair of Asian and Ancient Art at the Art Institute. In his lecture entitled Tradition-Inspired Contemporary Asian Art: A Strategy of Collecting, Xu will explain why the Department of Asian and Ancient Art has identified and implemented a strategy of collecting contemporary Asian art that is inspired by artistic legacies of traditional Asian cultures. He will also discuss the dichotomy of innovation and tradition and the tension between global convergence and regional cultural identity that have energized some of the most talented artists in Asia. Finally, he will review recent museum acquisitions and future possibilities to illustrate the discussion of this new effort in his department, which aims to connect Asian art from past to future. Following our program we will enjoy lunch at Cliff Dwellers. It will be a great opportunity to continue our conversation with Jay Xu. We hope you will join us for this exciting event. Please call Jenny Gheith at 312.443.3630 to make your reservation no later than Friday, 25 May. This event is free of charge. You must be a Patron level member in good standing to attend.
