Exhibition viewing with artist and gallery founder

1620 W Carroll Ave 2nd Floor, Chicago, IL 60612 (Map)

Join your fellow SCA members at Bodenrader for a tour of Container and last display, a solo exhibition by Chicago-based artist Ella Rose Flood. Flood and Bodenrader founder Ethan Kennemer will lead members on a walkthrough of the gallery and discuss the artist’s motivations and approaches in creating this exhibition.

Container and last display deals with the symbolic and material existence of objects, and with the compulsion to ascribe meaning and attach oneself to them. This process often occurs as a sort of dislocation, an attachment that develops in place of a presently absent person, item, or state of being. Flood works through this compulsion and constructs objects and paintings that absorb and reconstitute this dislocated significance. In doing so, she creates burial sites and emotional arenas for projection and memorialization. These funereal objects, along with their filtered depictions and translations into affective subjects, assign meaning and impute blame in equal measure.

The exhibition will be on view at Bodenrader from May 23rd - June 28th, 2025.

Light drinks will be served.
